Remote Exams

Dear students,

As requested by ISEG’s President, here is some information regarding the Cost Accounting Exams.

More detailed information regarding each part of the exam, their duration and the breaks in between will be provided before the exam.

  1. The continuous evaluation grades (cases and class participation) will be available before the exam.
  2. As communicated in March, the components of the regular period (epoca normal) evaluation are the following: 20% cases, 10% class participation, 70% regular period exam.
  3. The Cost Accounting exams were designed, in terms of questions and time, for a closed book (sem consulta) exam.
  4. However, given the special circumstances of a remote exam, and to assure a fairness among all students, the Cost Accounting Team decided to have an open book (com consulta) exam.
  5. However, we alert all students that the time available for the exam is for a closed book exam. Thus, students will not have much time to “study” their class materials during the exam.
  6. Because we did not have the midterm, the regular period exam will evaluate all chapters of the program, just like the repeat period exam.
  7. The exams will be done in Aquila with the video-invigilation in MS Teams.
  8. All parts of the exam will be done directly in Aquila, using the function of “fichas”.
  9. Students must be in a session in MS Teams during the exam and have their cameras switch on during the whole time of the exam. If a student does not have a camera in his/her computer, he/she can use the camera of the mobile phone and access MS Teams via mobile phone.
  10. In case a student does not have the camera switch on during the exam, he/she will be subject to a oral exam.
  11. The exam will have 3 to 4 different parts (fichas). Each part will be submitted autonomously, according to the timeline specified in the beginning of each part (between 15 and 10 minutes). The objective is to mitigate the problems of submission that sometimes students face in Aquila.
  12. There will be a break, 5 to 15 minutes, between each part. This break will be clearly specified in the exam.
  13. The exam will be composed of multiple choice questions (50 to 100 points out of 200 points) and open questions (remaining points) that will be responded directly in text boxes in Aquila. We alert students for the need to answer directly in Aquila and not in paper because we will not accept photos of answers written in paper. Additionaly you should optimize your time and using it for solving the questions in Aquila and not for solving them in paper and then copying them to Aquila. If needed, you can always edit your answer.
  14. According to the rules set by ISEG, students who miss some parts of the evaluation and want that part to count, will be subject to an oral exam regarding that part that is missing.
  15. All students with a final grade above 17 will be subject to an oral exam
  16. Students that in “Improvement of Grade” Exam achieve a grade higher than 14 valores will be subject to an oral exam.
  17. The oral exams will obey to the rules set by ISEG (MS Teams with camera on or physically at ISEG) and in the dates defined for those oral exams.

Good study and Good exams!

Deadline Case 4 and tutorial this Thursday

Dear students,

We hope this email finds you and your families well.

Please recall that the delivery deadline of Case 4 is tomorrow, Monday, May 18th, 1:30pm.

The cases must be delivered via email to the account: cancasos@iseg.ulisboa.pt

The cases must be handwritten, have the student number and name in all pages, and be send in pdf format. Only if that is not possible, you can send a photo of your solution.
The email to send the solution should have in its subject the name and number of the student, as well as the program. For example: CASE 4 - 12345 MARY SMITH - MANAGEMENT

The handwriting should be CLEAR. If the grader does not understand your handwriting he will not be able to evaluate your case.

Students should send the case with their own email address in cc and ask for a delivery/reading receipt as a way to assure that the case was correctly delivered. Because some photo attachments are very heavy, they may be sent back but students only find out about this much later on, sometimes after the deadline.
We won’t send confirmation messages when we receive the cases as this demands time that the graders need to correct your cases. So be sure to ask a delivery/reading receipt when sending your case.

The cases can and should be delivered before the deadline to avoid last minute problems, such as delivery issues.

All cases delivered after the deadline will be penalized. Only in this way we assure a correct balance for the students that have obeyed to the deadline, sometimes with personal sacrifice.

Please be aware that ISEG has a policy of zero tolerance with plagiarism. COPIED CASES WILL EXCLUDE THE STUDENTS FROM THE CONTINUOUS EVALUATION AND THE PLAGIARISM WILL BE REPORTED TO THE PEDAGOGICAL COUNCIL.
We reinforce the importance of solving the cases as a means to effectively follow the course. Our experience shows that the students that opt for the continuous evaluation have better results, both in terms of approval and in terms of grades.

Case 4 will be solved in a tutorial on Thursday, May 21, 5:30pm.

To acess the tutorials you should use Microsoft Teams.
You should go to the folder "Teams" and choose on the top right the option "Access or Create a team"/ "Aderir ou criar uma equipa".
In the new screen, you should choose "Access a Team with a code"/"Aderir a uma equipa com código" and then insert the code 36ie4vg

Have a nice weekend, Good work in solving the case, and Stay Safe and Healthy!

Mock online evaluation

Dear students,

Following ISEG’s decision to have a mock online evaluation in all courses, we will do our mock online evaluation on the 2nd Cost Accounting class of this week. This mock evaluation will not take more than 5-10m.

Because this mock online evaluation was not planned initially, it will not count for your grade. However, we encourage all students to take part of it as an experience with this type of evaluation.

Later on we will provide you all the details of the exam, as we are still waiting for some clarifications from ISEG.

We recall that Case 3 will be solved in a tutorial this Thursday, May 14, 5:30pm.

Case 4 will also be solved in a tutorial on the following Thursday, May 21, 5:30pm.

Have a nice week, Good classes/tutorial, and good mock evaluation!
