Dear students,

We hope that this message finds you and your families well and healthy.

The final grades of the Regular Period (exam and continuous evaluation, when applicable) are now available.

You can find the details of the grades in the section “Grades Continuous Evaluation”, as well as the correction of one of the versions of the exam (similar rational applies to other versions).

The exam grade was corrected according to all appeals that you sent. All these corrections appear in the column “Correction” and the reason in the column “Reason for Correction”.

Given the problems in Aquila, we decided to lower the minimum grade of the exam to 7 (and not 7,5 as before).

Thus, the final grade obeys to the following rules:

Corrected exam grade below 7 => Final Grade of Regular Period = Corrected Exam Grade

Corrected exam grade above 7 and above class participation => Final Grade of Regular Period = 80% Corrected Exam Grade + 20% Cases

Corrected exam grade above 7 but below class participation => Final Grade of Regular Period = 70% Corrected Exam Grade + 20% Cases + 10% Class Participation

Due to the knowledge we have of the students who have a final grade above 17, the cost accounting team decided to maintain these grades without an oral exam.

Thus, these are the final grades.

Students who want to access the grade review session, which will be held in Microsoft Teams with cameras on, should send an email until Tuesday, 30/6, 10am, to pedrosantos@iseg.ulisboa.pt identifying the reason of the appeal regarding the correction of the exam. The review session will be held on Friday, June 3, in the morning. Students will receive a confirmation email with the exact time by June 1.

Finally, we inform you that ISEG’s President as approved that, due to Aquila problems, students who want to improve their grade in the Repeat Period, can do so without paying the usual fee. For students improving their grade we will also count the continuous evaluation, if this grade is higher than the repeat period exam grade. Students will keep the highest grade obtained in the Regular Period and the Repeat Period.

Given the bad experience that all of us had with Aquila, the Cost Accounting Team has decided to use in the Repeat Period Exam Microsoft Forms. Students will also need to be present in a meeting in Microsoft Teams during this exam. Later this week we will send you more details regarding this exam in MS Forms, but we can already tell you that it will be composed of multiple choice questions and questions to be answered in text boxes.

Once again we apologize for the problems occurred during the Regular Period Exam and we hope that we have a smoother Repeat Period Exam.

Good luck for the exams, have nice holidays (when applicable) and stay healthy!

The Cost Accounting Team

More information for the exam of June 9

Dear students,

Please find below some additional information regarding tomorrow’s exam:

1.       As per the rules of the course, the minimum mark of this exam shall be 7.5 points, for the rest of the evaluation elements to be considered.

2.       The exam does not require uploads or documents being sent. All the exam is answered in Aquila directly.

3.       In the multiple choice questions no calculations need to be presented. Wrong answers carry a penalty of ¼ of the quotation. In case you do not answer, there is no penalty.

4.       In the open text questions, you shall present the calculations – be detailed but manage your time.

5.       The “submission” button is at the end of each part/section. Once submitted and if still within the time limit you can go back to the exam. It should be a quick procedure and may allow you to avoid unpleasant surprises at the end of the exam (like “save” a document when you are writing it).

6.       Back-ups: in case you want and have time you can make a back-up of your answers in Word. This can be used in case Aquila system fails or erases something inadvertently. This backup may also work as evidence of your exam but only in case of a severe fail/error from the system. In this case you should take a print screen of Aquila’s error and send it to slourenco@iseg.ulisboa.pt as well as the backup word document.

7.       The structure has 4 parts, as commented. The first 2 parts are mainly multiple choice and the other 2 parts are only open text questions. The different chapters of the course are mixed in questions all over the exam.

8.       The time should be enough but do not waste too much time in each question. Organize your time efficiently. Try to do as much as possible and only then check what you may have not done well.

9.       There is a sheet with formulas for chapter VII available in Aquila.

10.   Aquila has a clock but only up to the last 5 minutes. Then it disappears so that you are alerted to the need of submitting the exam. Please control the time available.

Once again, we ask that you remain calm and serene – this will help you in the exam. If problems arise, we will deal with them in the best way possible. Sleep well and relax tonight!

Important message for the exam of June 9

Dear Cost Accounting students,

We hope this e-mail finds you and your families well and in good health.

In relation to the Cost Accounting exam for tomorrow, June 9 at 9 am, we have the following information (you can also check the announcement online):

1.       The exam is with consultation (of class materials, books, formulas) but individual, without any contact with third parties, in accordance with the honour commitment signed by the students and defined by the school.

2.       We remind you that the exam is with consultation only due to technical questions, but it was designed to be without done without consultation. Therefore, it is important that you do not waste time with unnecessary research in case you know the answer and/or how to solve the question. Validation checks should only be done at the end of each part of the exam, after answering and submitting and if there is any time left.

3.       At 8h45m all students must be at Teams at a class meeting. Specific meetings at Teams will be created, therefore you can access through the calendar. To those who may not have this option, just join the meeting that will be going on at the time.

4.       Any student without access to Teams must URGENTLY contact the Information Systems Department at ISEG (“Direção de Sistemas de Informação do ISEG” - dsi@iseg.ulisboa.pt) in order to get access.

5.       When joining the meeting, students shall turn on the cameras and microphones (during the exam, microphones can be switched off). Students with no camera on the computer must access Teams through a smartphone.

6.       At 8h45m a rol-call will be made by whoever is watching the exam.

7.       When called, the student shall answer and present the identity card (or passport) to be duly identified.

8.       Students that do not identify themselves will be subject to an oral exam.

9.       Any student not identified before the exam starts (for lack of time) will be identified in the following break.

10.   At 8h55m students, while keeping the Teams meeting with the camera on, shall access Aquila to be prepared to start the exam at 9h.

11.   At Aquila, students shall access the option “fichas”.

12.   At 9h, the 1st part of the exam shall be distributed automatically by the system and the exam will start.

13.   The exam has 4 sections, each with 20 minutes, and there is a 10-minute break between each section.

14.   Therefore, the timings will be as follows:

a.       From 9h to 9h20m – Part I

b.       From 9h20m to 9h30m – 1st break

c.       From 9h30m to 9h50m – Part II

d.       From 9h50m to 10h – 2nd break

e.       From 10h to 10h20m – Part III

f.        From 10h20m to 10h30m – 3rd break

g.       From 10h30m to 10h50m – Part IV

15.   Students with special educative needs shall have a 10-minute tolerance in each part, as per the rules defined by the School. For these students, each part will have 30 minutes, benefiting from the same 10-minute breaks, as follows:

a.       From 9h to 9h30m – Part I

b.       From 9h30m to 9h40m – 1st break

c.       From 9h40m to 10h10m – Part II

d.       From 10h10m to 10h20m – 2nd break

e.       From 10h20 to 10h50m – Part III

f.        From 10h50m to 11h – 3rd break

g.       From 11h to 11h30m – Part IV

16.   The exam has multiple choice questions and open text questions (text boxes). Multiple choice questions are worth 8 points in the exam and the open text questions, the remaining 12 points. In the multiple choice it is not necessary to present calculations, while in the open text questions, students shall, when applicable, present the calculations and justifications necessary to back up their answers.

17.   The weight of theoretical questions is 20 to 25% of the total exam and the remaining questions are practical.

18.   All questions will have the respective quotation indicated. Anyway, it is important to stress that in the multiple-choice questions, in case of a wrong answer, ¼ of the quotation will be taken out.

19.   During each part/section, students must, when possible, do regular “submissions” of the exam to guarantee that there are no last-minute issues/problems with submissions. Students may go back and change any answer already given until the moment that the part/section closes.

20.   Any problem with Aquila must be communicated at once to whoever is watching the exam at Teams.

21.   Only after the last part/section of the exam is over can the student switch off the camera and leave Teams.

Finally, the Cost Accounting team wishes to reinsure everyone that we are aware of the difficulties everyone is feeling and how challenging an online exam is. This exam was designed to face these new circumstances we are all going through.

Wish you all a great exam!

Message after the Regular Period Exam

Dear students,

We thank you for all the messages reporting problems and suggestions that we have received.  We won’t reply individually to them, but they will be taken into consideration while correcting the exam and for our own learning regarding online classes and remote evaluations.

We are working with the IT department, the Pedagogical Council and ISEG’s President to understand what happened to Aquila and to find a solution for this situation.

Once again, we ask that you remain calm and serene – this will help you during the exam season.

Enjoy this holiday, good luck for the remaining exams and stay healthy!

The Cost Accounting Team.

Continuous Evaluation Grades

Dear students,

We hope this email finds you and your families well and healthy.

We inform you that the grades from the continuous evaluation are now available.
Congratulations for the work done along the semester in such difficult conditions!

Because not all of you could participate in class due to the technical conditions available, the Cost Accounting Team decided that the participation grade given by the instructor and that counts 10% of the Regular Period grade, will be replaced by the exam grade when the latter is higher than the former.

If you have any questions regarding the cases’ grades, you should send an email to cancasos@iseg.ulisboa.pt
In the subject of the email you should identify the case and yourself as follows: Case 2 - 12345 Mary Smith - Management

Regarding the Regular Period Exam, more information will be sent tomorrow.

In any case, the exam will be as described in the announcement made in Aquila last week.

The Cost Accounting Team balanced the pros and cons of the various types of exams, as well as the recommendations of the Pedagogical Council, and choose the one more appropriate for a large course with more than 400 students.

The Cost Accounting Team recognizes the limitations of this type of exam, but we assure you that the exam will be balanced and fair.

The exercises from class and from previous years are good practice, because what you will find is more simple questions, adapted to multiple choice or to be responded in text boxes.

Thus, we recommend that you stay calm and focus your energies in studying.

Good study, good exams and stay healthy!
