Objectivos

To provide an understanding of fundamental macroeconomic concepts and techniques.
To introduce students to the most significant macro features of modern economies.
To study the role governments and central banks can play in an economy.

- Measuring Economic Activity and Economic Variables;
- Economic Growth, Productivity and Living Standards;
- Private Consumption, Household Savings and Investment;
- Government and Public Finance;
- Foreign Trade and Balance of Payments;
- Economic Fluctuations: An Introduction;
- Aggregate Demand and Income in the Short Run;
- Money and Monetary Policy;
- Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply.

Metodologia de avaliação

The teaching is organized in two theoretical lectures and one practical shift per week. Each theory lesson lasts 1h and each practical session lasts 2h. In practical classes several exercises indicated by teachers or suggested by students are solved. Evaluation consists of tests throughout the semester, with a 50 percent weighting, and a final exam, also with a 50 percent weighting.
