Objectivos

1. To understand how effective operations can create a sustainable competitive advantage for organizations;
2. Apply process analysis methodology and identify key process metrics
3. Identify bottleneck issues and apply theory of constraints principles
4. Evaluate the performance of queuing systems and compute their costs
5. Evaluate the impact of variability on process performance
6. know and explain the fundamental concepts in supply chain management;
7. Explain the strategic importance of supply chain design and management;
8. Understand the nature and importance of inventories;
9. Determine how much and when to order
10. Understand the importance of selecting good six sigma projects for achieving organizational excellence;
11. Understand the philosophy of six sigma and be able to apply the DMAIC methodology to continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of organizations' processes

B) Group work : Case study analysis
The final exam covers all the topics and a minimum grade of 9 out of 20 values is required. In the first examination period (first exam) the final grade is given by:
Final grade = 0.6*A + 0.4*B
In the second examination period (second exam) the continuous evaluation elements will only be considered if it benefits the student's final grade.
